Nightlife happens in towns and cities of all sizes. The options you have for night time date ideas may depend on the size of your city or town, and whether or not you have colleges or universities nearby.
In our experience, the larger the city and the more post-secondary schools there are, the more happening the nightlife!
Bars: Perfect if you simply want to go out for a drink. Think of the show "Cheers" and that's what you'll find. Peanuts, pretzels and regular customers.
Clubs: Drinking, dancing, more drinking and dancing. Loud. Great fun when in college. My husband and I met in a club, so it can happen!
Comedy Clubs: We've found this one hit and miss. Sometimes there are really funny comedians performing, other nights you would have been better off staying home. Try to find out who's going to be performing before you go.
Hookah Lounge: Don't know what this is?
Also called a shisha bar in Canada and Britain; it's basically a tobacco smoking bar. People share flavoured tobacco (shisha) from a communal hookah that is placed at each table.
We aren't advocating smoking, but we aren't here to judge, either. Check it out and decide for yourself.
Karaoke: Sing the night away! If you or your date are shy, this may not be the best choice. Of course, you could always just watch other people.
Lounges: Relaxing, quiet, soft music playing in background. Comfortable chairs and couches to sit on, and an appetizer menu to choose from.
Probably not the best bet for a first date, since there will really be pressure to keep the conversation going.
Pubs: Our favorite of the list. Most pubs serve terrific food, and the noise level is reasonable. Some provide live entertainment on weekends, check local papers or in the pub itself for details.
Pubs are also a great place to meet during the week for lunch.
Sports Bars: Especially good if there is an important game on. It's noisy, so you probably won't do much talking; but you can do a lot of cheering, whether you have a favorite team or not! On game nights, the energy level is high. We love it!
